Whitehat Inc. will incorporate Habeas Inc.’s Sender Warranted E-mail service into its outbound e-mail marketing campaigns for clients.
The service works by trademarking and copyrighting a unique set of lines, known as a warrant mark, which is embedded in the headers of outgoing email. Spammers who improperly use the Habeas warrant mark, which includes a Haiku poem, can be prosecuted under international trademark and copyright law. Habeas can seek penalties of $1 million and more, shut down offenders through injunction, and in severe cases refer them for criminal prosecution.
The Habeas service is free to ISPs and individuals. Organizations pay an annual fee while commercial bulk email providers sending verified permission mailings pay based on mail volume.
Tempe, AZ-based Whitehat, a provider of opt-in direct email marketing solutions was launched in 1999 by Rodney Joffe, founder of American Computer Group and a co-founder of the Internet Web-hosting company Genuity.
