Coldwater Creek generated $12.4 million in net income during its third quarter, up from net income of $9.1 million in third quarter 2004. The Sandpoint, ID-based women’s apparel marketer’s revenue jumped from $150.5 million a year ago to $190.1 million. The quarter ended Oct. 29.
During the quarter, direct sales – which includes both catalog and Internet revenue – rose from $70.4 million a year ago to $74.9 million. The category’s overall important within the revenue stream fell, however: A year ago direct sales made up 46.8% of total revenue. In the quarter just ended, it amounted to 39.4%.
Within the segment Internet sales increased to $47 million from $39 million, while catalog sales fell from $31.4 million to $27.9 million. The company trimmed its catalog circulation between the quarters, mailing out 31.4 million catalogs a year ago and 23.8 million catalogs during third quarter 2005.
“Our e-mail database now includes almost 2.6 million active addresses, which provides us with increased opportunity to market to these customers in a targeted and affordable manner,” said Dennis Pence, chairman and chief executive officer for Coldwater Creek, in a statement. “In addition, our e-mail campaigns and catalog mailings now provide a compelling way to drive retail store traffic.”
