A majority of Internet marketers have voted in favor of opt-in e-mail marketing, according to surveys from e-mail service provider NetCreations Inc., New York. “The results of our first poll in February found that 80% of the more than 5,500 respondents supported legislation that would require marketers to obtain consumers’ permission before sending them marketing messages by e-mail,” says company chief executive Rosalind Resnick. A second poll – an informal survey of attendees taken at the Direct Marketing Association’s recent Net.marketing conference – found that marketers overwhelmingly favored opt-in e-mail marketing services as the proper means to reach consumers.
