Wealthy Donors Favor Internet, Study Says

Major donors to charities tend to favor using the Internet, according to a new study from Convio.

The study surveyed more than 3,000 high-end donors from 23 major nonprofit organizations last fall.

The report also found that:

* A full 72% of respondents percent say donating online is more efficient and helps charities reduce administrative costs.

* 51% said they prefer giving online and 46% said that five years from now they will be making a greater portion online.

* Only 40% of respondents said that most charity Web sites made them feel personally connected to their cause or mission.

This group, known as the “Wired Wealthy,” is made up of individuals who donate at least $1,000 dollars annually to a single cause and give an average of $10,896 to various charities each year, with a median gift of $4,500. It represents approximately 1% of the participating charities
