Victoria Secret’s Fashion Show Booed by Critics

Victoria’s Secret was under fire this week from several groups upset by the sexy lingerie marketer’s fashion show, which aired last night on CBS.

The Parents Television Council released a letter Tuesday to CBS asking the network to reconsider its decision to broadcast the show. The showed aired Wednesday at 9 p.m.

The Council said the fashion show was nothing more than an opportunity to promote soft-core pornography during prime time.

“It’s pretty simple, we don’t think it’s appropriate for viewing,” said Lara Mahaney, director of corporate and entertainment for the PTC. “Nearly nude women is something we think is indecent for broadcast television and definitely inappropriate.”

The letter was also signed by the National Organization for Women, Advocates for Youth and Concerned Women for America and the National Coalition for the Protection of Children and Families among others.

“In an era in which women strive to not be treated as sexual objects, programs such as this only offend women and distort their image,” the letter stated.

It went on to state that CBS was more interested in profiting by attracting a young male demographic than in serving American’s families.

At least two affiliate TV stations, both in Idaho, had rescheduled the show to air after midnight because it did not meet local standards in the time period offered, according to PTC.

An investigation last November by the Federal Communications Commission into the show, which aired on ABC, found that it did not violate decency standards.

CBS gave the show a TV-14 rating, meaning it may not be appropriate for children ages 14 and younger.
