Up to the 1970s, The Sperry and Hutchinson Co., Inc. (S&H) printed the popular “green stamps,” which shoppers received when they bought items and later redeemed for toasters and water pitchers.
The process now lives online at Greenpoints.com and S&H has entered into a partnership with Verizon Wireless to help sell its phones and calling plans. Each S&H member that buys a phone and plan will be rewarded with 20,000 points.
“We’re trying to expand our offering so members can earn greenpoints in multiple ways,” said Michelle Moore, affinity marketing manager at S&H. “We feel Verizon has an excellent reputation in the marketplace and we’re willing to have unique offers for our members.”
Members can use points to purchase items from more than 100 merchants including Orbitz, JCPenney and Dell Computers. The company partnered with e-VAR, an authorized online agent for Verizon Wireless, to bring the rewards to its members.
Delray Beach, FL-based S&H promoted the offering to its members on its Web site, through e-mails and via the company’s catalog.
Wellesley, MA-based e-VAR began targeting reward networks like S&H last fall. Some 75% of consumers who are members of reward programs are very active in them, said Scott Burke, executive-VP of S&H.
“These members stay very engaged in loyalty programs and have strong desires to earn points,” Burke said. “Their membership groups represent 20 million people in the marketplace giving Verizon Wireless a strategic ability to reach consumers.”
