Verizon Communications recently sent letters to 250,000 customers in New York that inadvertently contained a telephone number directing the customers to a phone-sex company, according to a news report.
The letters pitching a lower-cost international calling plan included a toll-free sign-up number, the report said. Callers to that number heard a recording directing them to Intimate Encounters, a company that offers discussions with women for $2.99 a minute, payable by credit card, the report said. Verizon spokesman Eric Rabe said the error was caused by “a typo problem.”
