Valentine’s Day Marketing Round-Up

Oh yes, love is in the air and Valentine’s Day is just a few days off, so we hope you’ve ordered those flowers and made those dinner reservations for the 14th! Marketers have been busy in the weeks leading up to Cupid’s big day, and Chief Marketer is here to provide you with a rundown of Valentine’s-themed campaigns that are sure to warm your heart:

  • Starbucks and Match.com have teamed up to spice up customers’ love lives by creating a “Meet at Starbucks” feature available on the dating site. Since going out for coffee is a163218543 popular option for first dates, the two brands came together to make it even easier, according to Consumerist. In addition to the new dating site feature, Starbucks announced that it will host the “World’s Largest Starbucks Date” at select locations in the U.S. and Canada from 2 p.m. to close on February 13.
  • High-end jeweler Cartier debuted “The Proposal” for Valentine’s Day–a six-minute online film that tells a tale of modern romance directed by Oscar-nominated director Sean Ellis. Adweek reports that the film dives into three separate two-minute love stories (and viewers can check out Cartier’s website to learn more about the fabulous jewels in the movie, naturally).
  • You might not think of potatoes when you think of Valentine’s Day, but Potandon Produce has given its advertising icons the Klondike Fairies a V-Day makeover, according to The Produce News. The brand is hoping the fairies and product tagline, “Taste the Love in Every Bite,” will reaching consumers emotionally and helping to drive sales.
  • This Style.com story digs into women’s fashion brand & Other Stories Valentine’s campaign, which is focused on model Eden Clark and Lizzie Tovell’s relationship via a series of romantic and subtle self-portraits. The brand’s choice of featuring a same sex couple follows Tiffany & Co.’s recent campaign highlighting the same.
  • Deezer has launched a new mobile app that makes it easy to create a Valentine’s mix tape for the one you love, minus those clunky cassette tapes. Business & Leadership reports that the new MixTape app allows users to create mixes of their favorite songs instantly, then share them via email or social media.
  • Nation’s Restaurant News provides a rundown of how restaurants are leveraging social media for marketing purposes during the buildup to Valentine’s Day (a big day in the restaurant world). Both chain restaurants and smaller stand alone locations are seeing the value of social media in getting the word out on special menus and Valentine’s Day deals and offers.
