The U.S. Postal Service said Wednesday it plans to discontinue an experimental Internet-based document-delivery service for direct marketers beyond mid-June.
Responding to a Postal Rate Commission demand for detailed information about the experimental service it began offering last July, the USPS said that it has no current plans to request approval from the Board of Governors for an extension.
Tuesday, the PRC ordered the USPS to produce detailed information about the Post Electronic Courier Service (Post E.C.S.) after postal officials tried to keep it secret, saying disclosure would give its competitors “access to prices charged among the parties involved” in the service’s development and operation.
