Total Mail Revenue Rises $500 Million in Quarter

The U.S. Postal Service reported total mail volume of 74.1 billion pieces for the quarter ended Jan. 31, up 3.9% from last year. Revenue was up $500 million from last year.

Standard mail volume was 34.7 billion pieces, up 7.5% from last year. Revenue was up $382 million from last year. First class mail volume was 35.1 billion pieces, up 0.7% from last year. Revenue was off $40 million from last year.

Periodical volume was 3 billion pieces, off 0.1% from last year. Revenue was off $2 million from last year. Express mail volume was 17.9 million pieces, up 0.6% from last year. Revenue was up $1 million.

Priority mail volume was 309.9 million pieces, up 0.6% from last year. Revenue was up $38 million from last year. Package service volume was 416.5 million pieces, up 0.3% from last year. Revenue was off $10 million.

Other postal service volume was 600 million pieces, up 16.7% from last year. Revenue was up $131 million.
