The Talbots Starts Brand, Operating Policies Review, Names Kowalczyk President

The Talbots Inc.’s management has begun a strategic review of the company, with a focus on its brand positioning. Separately, the Hingham, MA-based apparel marketer has put its brand advertising account up for a competitive review in September.

The brand review will examine the positioning of the company’s Talbots and J. Jill Brands, as well as store growth, productivity, and distribution channels, among other concerns. Talbots did not announce the name of the business consulting firm that is assisting in its review.

Additionally, Philip H. Kowalczyk, currently president of the Company’s J. Jill Group, Inc., has been named COO of The Talbots. effective immediately. He will report directly to president and CEO Trudy F. Sullivan. In his new role, Kowalczyk will be responsible for Tstrategic planning, international operations, direct marketing and customer service operations, and information services, distribution and fulfillment operations, and manufacturing and Sourcing and product integrity.
