THE CALENDAR YEAR-END SURGE IN DONATIONS is often required for many nonprofits to balance their budgets after a long and targeted fundraising campaign. The spirit of giving and year-end tax advantages are a winning combination for nonprofits in December, and recency counts on their files may reflect that as well. For individual and corporate donors, the future tax savings benefits can fan a fire that may already be glowing during the holiday season.
Many nonprofit lists comprise generous and responsive donors and may be available for secondary market use. Similar to catalog and publishing lists, many of these files are also enhanced with additional demographic and psychographic data. And remember, you would be giving back to a good cause as part of your own direct marketing strategy: Many nonprofit list owners depend on the income from list rentals to support their respective missions and fund their own future marketing campaigns.
There are a few nonprofit ‘wish lists’ to consider testing this season. These donors have given to at least one charitable organization dedicated to fulfilling wishes and improving the lives of children in distress, who may also be fighting a life-threatening disease. These files are most likely to be effective for children’s health related appeals, but may also work well for publishers, catalogs and other offers. Be sure to ask about the terms of use for list rental and have your sample mail piece ready.
