Cataloger and retailer The Talbots Inc., Hingham, MA, reported net income of $17.8 million for the quarter ended Aug. 2, an increase over $14.6 million for the same period last year.
Catalog sales were even with last year at $49.8 million for the quarter.
Total company net sales rose 6% to $384.3 million from $361.2 million last year.
For the six-months ended Aug. 2, net income increased to $57.9 million from $47.3 million during the first half of last year. Catalog sales for that period rose 8% to $127.8 million, up from $117.8 million reported in the six-month period in 2000. Likewise, total company net sales increased 8% to $785.4 million from $724.7 million in the first half of last year.
