Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project Omnibus Survey found that 67 percent of Internet users in the U.S. use social networking sites. Women (71 percent) are more likely than men (62 percent) to use these sites.
The survey also took a closer look at demographics for the major social media services. Facebook remains the king of the space with 67 percent of all Internet users. Twitter follows behind with 16 percent of all Internet users, while Pinterest boasts 15 percent of all Internet users.
The perception that Pinterest is mostly a social network for females holds true here: Pew found that while 25 percent of women are on Pinterest, only 5 percent of men are.
Instagram lays claim to 13 percent of all Internet users, while Tumblr is used by 6 percent of Internet users.
