Skechers Attributes Loss Partly to Exiting Mail Order Business

Skechers USA reported a net loss of$8.6 million for the fourth quarter, down from net earnings of $2 million in the comparable period of 2001.

The footwear online marketer and retailer reported net sales of $180.8 million for the quarter ended Dec, 31, 2000, down from $214.1 million.

The Manhattan Beach, CA firm reported net earnings of $47 million for the year 2002, up slightly from $47.3 million the year before.

The Footwear direct marketer and retailer reported net sales of $943.6 million for the period, down from net sales of $960.4 million in 2001.

“We are pleased with our ability to maintain our share of the global footwear market and deliver solid earnings despite the difficult economic environment, a West Coast port strike, and a reduction in revenue from eliminating our mail order division,” said CFO David Weinberg, in a statement.
