Sirius Reports Wider Loss, Increased Marketing Costs

Sirius Satellite Radio on Friday reported wider-than-expected losses and increased marketing costs.

Sirius reported a net loss of $311.4 million or 23 cents a share for the fourth quarter of 2005 and a net loss of $863 million for the full year.

Revenue more than tripled to $80 million from $25.2 million. Total costs rose to $377 million from $284 million.

The company reported that sales and marketing expenses increased by $12.2 million to $63.0 million for the fourth quarter of 2005 from $50.8 million for the fourth quarter of 2004.

The company reported that its subscriber base increased by 190% in 2005 to 3.3 million.
