The National Basketball Association and Sirius Satellite Radio have partnered in a multi-year deal to make Sirius an official NBA marketing partner.
The agreement expands an existing broadcast arrangement between the two. Their original deal, struck in February 2003, made the NBA the first major professional sports league to provide live games on Sirius.
The new deal allows Sirius to broadcast more live NBA games than another other radio outlet. It calls for extensive programming and allows Sirius to conduct NBA-themed advertising and promotions using the NBA logo, NBA Radio on Sirius logo and 30 team logos through NBA media assets and at the NBA Store.
Sirius will also feature ads and promotions on NBA.com, which generates more than 2.75 million visitors per day, the companies said.
An interactive Sirius display will be put up at the NBA Store on 5th Avenue in New York City, featuring a listening station where customers can sample Sirius programming and radios. For a certain time period, all customers who buy something at the store will receive a Sirius brochure inside their bag with every purchase.
Sirius ads will also appear on NBA TV and in other NBA media outlets.
