SHOPPING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

A broken ankle and too much time being couch-bound led me to do quite a bit of online shopping recently. I learned that even when it’s 2 a.m. and you’re doped up on Percocet, impulse buying just ain’t what it used to be.

Granted, there were days when I peered out onto my porch to see boxes that were a complete mystery. (It’s fun, kinda like Christmas.) But the ability to easily do research has changed the game.

One late night soon after surgery, I hazily watched an infomercial for bareMinerals. After about 15 minutes, I had to have it. (Never mind that it’s silly to think about makeup when you’re hardly leaving the house.)

I quickly logged on to buy — and then stopped. Hmmmm — maybe I should Google around and read some product reviews first?

That convinced me not to buy something I couldn’t try first. Instead, I went to Nordstrom’s site and bought some Clinique products I knew I would like and use.

Have my research capabilities made me a better shopper? Let me look on my porch and I’ll tell you later.
