Sharper Image Corp. cut its third quarter net loss to just under $500,000 from $3.8 million a year ago. The cataloger/retailer also boosted revenue from $77 million to $106.1 million.
On a percentage basis, catalog and Internet sales showed the greatest growth between quarters. Catalog sales increased 46%, to $33.3 million, from $22.8 million. Online revenue, which includes the company’s auction sales, rose 32% to $12.8 million from $9.7 million. Same-store retail sales were up 24%, while total retail sales increased 37%, from $41.8 million to $57.2 million. The quarter ended Oct. 31.
The San Francisco-based lifestyle products marketer also increased its advertising and promotion expenditures between quarters, spending $20 million during the quarter just ended compared with $12.7 million in third quarter 2001.
