Schoonover to Replace McCollough at Circuit City

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Circuit City will have a new CEO come March 1.

Philip Schoonover will take charge of the electronics retail chain then, replacing W. Alan McCollough, who will retire.

Schoonover has been Circuit City president for just under one year; he joined the retail chain in October 2004 as executive VP-chief merchandising officer. Schoonover came to Circuit City from rival Best Buy, where he had been executive VP-customer segments. Schoonover also held management posts at TOPS Appliance City and Sony Corp. of America.

McCollough is credited with building Circuit City’s senior management team and turning the chain around. He joined Richmond, VA-based Circuit City in 1987 as general manager of operations.

McCollough won’t seek reelection to Circuit City’s board of directors when his term expires in June. Schoonover was elected to Circuit City’s board on Dec. 17.
