School Specialty Inc. reported revenue for the first quarter of $298 million, a 14.6% increase over last year. Net income for the quarter increased 45.7% to $24 million.
The direct marketer of supplemental educational supplies to schools and teachers said the increases were driven by strong gross margin improvement related to product mix and market positioning.
Net income increased 45.7% to $24 million for the quarter ended July 27, compared with $16.4 million for the like period last year.
Revenues for the first quarter rose 14.6% to $298 million from $260.2 million last year. The growth in revenue is due to internal growth in the specialty lines, the Greenville, WI, company said.
