Rogers Gets Friendly With MySpace

Canadian wireless and data services provider Rogers Wireless has begun offering MySpace functionality on select phones, marking the social networking site’s first mobile deal in the Great White North.

Rogers has seven million wireless customers in Canada, says Reade Barber, director, new services market. The partnership makes sense, as MySpace—which has 4.1 million users in the country—fits in nicely with the desirable 16 to 24 year old demographic. Rogers also offers YouTube and FaceBook access on its network.

“We think community is a relevant and growing segment and its very relevant to our target audience,” says Barber.

MySpace access will be offered to Rogers customers free for the first six months, and will be promoted in an integrated campaign of print, online, on-campus and commuter advertising. It will also be highlighted in UR Magazine, Rogers’ house publication.

MySpace’s Canadian community was launched in May 2007, and is offered in both French (http://cf.myspace.com/) and English (http://ca.myspace.com/).
The MySpace global network includes h localized sites in 18 international territories including the United States, UK, Japan, Australia, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Canada, Netherlands, New Zealand, Latin America, Switzerland, Sweden, and Austria.
