RedEnvelope Expands Catalog Distribution, Has Record Holiday Season

RedEnvelope Inc., San Francisco, had nearly twice the sales volume during the 2001 holiday season than it did during 2000. The company increased its catalog circulation by 40%, bringing total distribution to 6 million books, including three separate drops in November.

The increased circulation contributed to the gift company’s growth to 750,000 unique customers, up from 250,000 a year ago. In December alone RedEnvelope shipped nearly a quarter million packages.

The company’s growth was aided by airline restrictions regarding bringing wrapped presents on aircraft. RedEnvelope ships wrapped gifts, and consumers traveling to holiday destinations may have wanted to send wrapped gifts ahead.
