Popeyes Names Denver Man Contest Winner

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits has named a Denver man the winner of its recent consumer-generated video contest, which asked customers to show their love of the brand.

Duane “Zion” Gray, an audio/video producer, captured the most online votes in the “Are You Bonafide? Video Contest” for his submission entitled “Get to Popeyes (Luv that Spice).” In the video, Zion sings about being “bonafide” in a hip-hop theme, modeling his creation after the original Dr. John’s ‘Love that Chicken from Popeyes’ song.

Zion heard about the contest while visiting Popeyes where he eats two to three times a week, the company said. As the top winner, he will get free Popeyes food for a year, an Apple iPod and a three-day trip for two to his choice of one of seven U.S. cities.

The winning video, along with the first- and second-prize winners’ videos are available at www.bonafidechicken.com.

Popeyes challenged people to upload 30-second videos to show what makes them a bonafide customer, someone who is genuine and true to themselves and isn’t shy about sharing their love of its chicken (Promo Xtra, April 11, 2008).
