Philly Kicks-Off $300,000 Gay Tourism Campaign

The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corp. has launched a three-year $300,000 tourism marketing campaign targeting the $54.1 billion gay and lesbian travel market in the U.S. and Canada.

The City of Brotherly Love plans to launch a series of gay-friendly ads and promotions over the next three years, including the first homosexually themed TV commercial. The city is also seeking corporate partnerships and sponsorships with companies that have expressed an interest in the gay market.

To date, the “Freedom to Be You Packages” offer gay-friendly accommodations, rates and amenities at nine hotels in the city.

The slogan “get your history straight and your nightlife gay” will be touted on the city’s official tourism Web site www.gophila.com, in a new travel brochure, and in an e-newsletter, called Gay Tripper.
