Papa John’s CMO Steps Down After Six Months

After a brief stint as chief marketing officer for the No. 3 pizza chain, Gary Langstaff has stepped down from his post.

According to a statement issued by Papa John’s International, Langstaff is “no longer affiliated with the company.” The Louisville, KY-based chain has hired an executive search firm to find a replacement for Langstaff and Chief Operating Officer William Van Epps will handle marketing on an interim basis. Reasons for Langstaff’s departure were not disclosed.

Just last May the company suffered a 3.4% decrease in sales despite its efforts to roll out nationwide advertising and marketing campaigns, which included DVD and music giveaways. The company noted that it has no plans to change the current direction of its marketing, which includes the use of new products and promotional tie-ins to further its “Better Ingredients. Better Pizza” strategy.
