Re: “The Conscience of Direct Marketing” (DIRECT, October).
Enjoyed your commentary on Nat’s life and times – well worth a mention. However, as I’m sure you know, you find humor in the most unexpected places.
Don’t know how many picked this up, but you made a reference to Nat’s “sheer power of example” and how he “remained in the saddle well into his 90s.”
Now, I looked hard, Ray, and could find no antecedent for remaining in the saddle. Thus, I had no option but to conclude it meant what we know, in the vernacular, “in the saddle” to mean.
And of course, doing so well into one’s 90s is laudable in any context. But a bit surprising to find in what was essentially an obit.
Thank you for a light moment.
