Online Coupons and Deals Aren’t as Big This Year for Holiday Shoppers

If Groupon is counting on the holiday season to give its struggling business a boost, it’d better think again.

Daily deal

According to a new study from Ipsos Public Affairs and Offers.com, daily deals are significantly less popular this year than they were last year.

The study found that 71 percent of respondents say they shop online, with 12 percent saying they do so at least once a week. Additionally, 21 percent say they make online purchases on a monthly basis, while 38 percent do so at least a few times a year.

Among respondents who shop online, 10 percent say they always look for a coupon or coupon code to “make their shopping dollar go farther.” Meanwhile, 14 percent say they look for a coupon or coupon code most of the time, 25 percent say once in a while and 36 percent say they never look for a coupon or coupon code when shopping online.

Last year, 16 percent of respondents said they always used coupons online, while 23 percent said they never used online coupons.

Ipsos Public Affairs and Offers.com posed this question to respondents: “In the last 30 days, what types of savings opportunities have you used?” Here are the responses, with last year’s responses in parentheses:
