Delray Beach, FL-based Office Depot Inc. will consolidate 24 call center operations into seven expanded customer service centers. The company plans to invest $22 million in computer telephony systems and to venture into outbound call activity. The firm said some 1,400 representatives are located at 24 U.S. call centers. While the number of these employees is expected to remain the same, the plan calls for building up key locations while scaling back or closing others. None of Office Depot’s five Viking call center operations – where 630 of the representatives work – will be affected. Existing office space and call center capacity in Viking’s Torrance, CA headquarters is expected to be used as the location for one of the seven Office Depot centers.
