SUBWAY RESTAURANTS: lends its name to a line of deli meats and cheeses through a licensing deal with Smithfield Foods. This month, Smithfield’s Deli Group begins a one-year test of Subway branded meat and cheese in supermarket delis, first in Pathway supermarkets in New York and New Jersey, with plans to expand to other retail outlets in the second half of the year. The line includes bologna, Virginia ham, Genoa salami, pepperoni, oven-roasted turkey, roast beef, Swiss cheese, provolone cheese, and white American cheese. Subway’s licensing agency, New York-based Beanstalk Group, brokered the deal.
CARTOON NETWORK NEW MEDIA: is rolling out a new service that uses voices of its cartoon characters to alert people about incoming calls. The new feature, called CallToons, will include characters from Cartoon Network and Adult Swim programming.
In addition to ringtones, the technology will offer voicemail and low battery alerts. CallToons will be available in the fourth quarter.
