To incent consumer to try out its new mobile phone service, Napstertones, Napster will give consumers who download a ringtone a free song download through June 8.
Napstertones debuted yesterday to provide ringtones, artist voice “shoutouts,” exclusive wallpapers featuring the iconic Napster Kitty and other graphics from Napster’s library to wireless phone users. Napstertones is immediately available to Cingular Wireless subscribers, and will be rolled out to other wireless providers this summer.
The roll out comes in two phases. The first is being promoted to Cingular Wireless and Napster subscribers with content on both company’s subscriber sites and with online banners. The second phase has not been announced, but will include the debut of a prepaid Napstertones card.
Napstertones can be directly purchased from Napster at Napstertones.com, Napster.com or from within Napster’s digital music service for $1.99 to $2.99.
Napster has teamed up with Seattle-based mobile content provider Dwango Wireless to launch the mobile phone service.
