News Corp.’s popular community Web site said Thursday that it settled a spam-related lawsuit it had brought against The Globe.com.
Terms of the settlement were undisclosed in the announcement, but according to a May 11 Securities and Exchange Commission filing, The Globe.com paid MySpace $2.6 million in April to settle the suit.
MySpace sued The Globe.com in June 2006 alleging the once-famous dot-com company sent almost 400,000 unsolicited e-mail messages to MySpace users from 95 or more dummy accounts.
In February, a U.S. District judge in Los Angeles held The Globe.com liable for violating three provisions of the federal Can-Spam Act including the prohibition against false return address information, the prohibition against sending commercial e-mail without opt-out and physical address information and the prohibition against automated e-mail to random recipients.
The court also found that The Globe.com violated California business code barring false return address and header information.
MySpace claims it was entitled to $5.5 million in damages.
