MySpace Taps Berman for Top Marketing Post

Popular social network MySpace has named Jeff Berman executive vice president of marketing and content, a new post.

Berman, 36, will oversee development of marketing campaigns for MySpace users and expansion of its franchises, including Music, Film, Comedy, Impact Channel and MySpaceTV. He will report to MySpace’s CEO and co-founder Chris DeWolfe.

The position went into effect immediately. Berman replaces Shawn Gold, MySpace’s former senior vice president of marketing, who left last year.

Berman had been general manager of MySpaceTV, shepherding the introduction of the Web site’s video platform. Berman engineered partnerships with media companies and created video content projects.

MySpace did not name a successor to fill Berman’s spot in its video operation.

Berman led the effort to create MySpace’s Impact Channel when he joined the company as senior vice president of public affairs in 2006. That channel contains MySpace pages for all the major party presidential candidates, along with tools for voter registration, fundraising and volunteering.

Before joining MySpace Berman ran his own strategic, political and crisis communications consulting firm.
