The itsy bitsy Entertainment Company of New York City and U.K.-based Ragdoll Productions have agreed to launch the wildly popular Teletubbies TV series for Latin America via the Discovery Kids cable and satellite network. A Portuguese version will follow shortly in Brazil, the companies announced.
Through the agreement, Discovery Kids will air 130 episodes of the series, dubbed into Spanish by the network, as well as produce new Latin American segments featuring children from various countries.
“The philosophies behind this very unique series and Discovery Kids makes this a perfect partnership, “says Emilia Nuccio, itsy bitsy Entertainment general manager, Latin America.
Created by Ann Wood and Andrew Davenport at Ragdoll Productions, Teletubbies was introduced to America via PBS last spring and became an instant phenomenon.
