McDonald’s Ramps Up Happy Meal Premiums

McDonald’s is out with the first of four summer promotions around Happy Meal premiums, tying the popular menu item with a top retailer and two major films.

The effort is part of McDonald’s Summer of Happy Meal Fun promotion. The QSR last week launched its first-ever premium plush collection with Build-A-Bear Workshop. One of eight Build-A-Bear Workshop premiums will be included in Happy Meals and Mighty Kids Meals. Each will come with the Build-A-Bear trademark heart and two removable outfits.

And on May 20, consumers who visit a local Build-A-Bear Workshop store can make a special bear for free to donate to children at the Ronald McDonald Houses around the world. The Build-A-Bear promotion runs through June 8.

On June 9, to tie in with the opening day of the film, McDonald’s is partnering with Disney/Pixar’s animated film Cars. Consumers will find one of eight toy cars based on the film in Happy Meals and Mighty Kids Meals through July 6.

In a second movie tie-in, McDonald’s will roll out Happy Meal premiums based on Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest starting July 7 through Aug. 3. In addition, the QSR will launch a sweepstakes giving 25 consumers the chance to win a trip for four to the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida or Disneyland Resort in California. Contest rules can be found inside participating McDonald’s restaurants.

McDonald’s will end it summer Happy Meal promotion with Polly Pocket. The chain will roll out eight different Polly Pocket dolls with interchangeable accessories Aug. 4 through Aug. 31. As part of the promotion, McDonald’s will unveil a mystery toy collection.

Online materials, TV spots and in-store P-O-P will support. The Marketing Store Worldwide, Oak Brook, IL, handles McDonald’s promotions. McDonald’s has more than 13,700 restaurants in the U.S.
