McDonald’s Awards More Than $30 Million in Monopoly Prizes

McDonald’s has doled out more than $30 million as part of its latest Monopoly promotion, and awarded two people each with the top prize of $1 million.

Travis Wilbanks, of St. Charles, MO, won his $1 million prize from a 32-ounce drink he bought at a McDonald’s restaurant in Overland, MO. Ashley Berry, of Kingwood, TX, won the other $1 million award by buying breakfast on her way to church.

McDonald’s also gave away prizes of $50,000, $25,000 and $10,000, the company said.

So far, the company has awarded more than $30 million in cash and prizes in this year’s game (Promo Xtra Oct. 2, 2007).The in-store component ended Monday.

An online version at http://www.PlayatMcD.com. runs through Nov. 13. To play, people roll virtual dice once for every code they enter up to 10 codes per day. Game tokens on the virtual board will move to the corresponding number of spaces. Prizes include American Express-branded gift cards, Toys R Us gift cards and downloadable games.

More than 557.1 million game pieces were created for the promotion, about 1 million more than last year.

TV spots, online materials and P-O-P support the promotion. The Marketing Store is the lead agency handling the campaign.
