MasterCard is adding an interactive element to its new National Football League TV spots, letting fans personalize and e-mail “Priceless Pep Talks from Peyton Manning.”
The satirical “pep talks” feature the Indianapolis Colts quarterback offering advice on a range of topics.
In the first two spots, which debuted yesterday during the Colts-New Orleans Saints match-up on NBC, Manning enlists the help of a teammate to demonstrate dance moves for the socially inept and purports to offer advice on how to handle marital misunderstandings.
In the latter spot, Manning relates, “First, we all sit cross-legged in what we call the friendship circle. Then we just share each other’s thoughts and listen to each other’s feelings.” His punch line puts the kibosh on all that: “We’re football players. Usually we just tape the smallest guy to the goal posts and call it a day.”
Fans will be able to access the 12 vignettes featuring Manning that will air during the season at Priceless.com, personalize one and send it to someone.
MasterCard has noted a surge of traffic to its Priceless site whenever it has formerly aired spots featuring Manning. He’s been seen in five ads over the past two seasons.
“We knew consumers wanted to actively engage with the campaign, which is why we’re now making it possible for them to do just that,” said Amy Fuller, group executive, Americas marketing for MasterCard Worldwide, in a statement.
Creative for the “Priceless Pep Talks” campaign is handled by McCann Erickson/New York.
