In celebration of its 100th birthday, Loews Cineplex Entertainment Corp. next month is rolling out the red carpet with events and discounts.
On Nov. 6, the final round of the Ultimate Film Fan contest will be held in New York City, where a grand-prize winner will be chosen and crowned the Ultimate Film Fan of 2004. The winner gets a lifetime of free movies with a friend at any Loews Cineplex and the chance to record the Loews jingle in their own voice.
Prices will be rolled back beginning Nov. 9 to $1 for popcorn and soda at concession stands nationwide.
On Nov. 10 the Museum of the Moving Image will hold a special exhibit that highlights the evolution of Loews and its movie theaters, from architectural styles to promotional giveaways. Also on this day, the cinema teams with Scholastic Marketing Partners will debut a national in-school educational program for fifth and sixth grade students. The program focuses on how films tell stories that reflect and affect the world and includes an essay contest where students write about their first experience at the movies. The curriculum will be distributed free to more than 10,000 teachers the second week of November.
As the celebration winds down on Nov. 18 a presentation of Reel Memories will mark the Loews anniversary as well as the centennial anniversary of the Jewish Museum. The theme covers the experience of watching films, going to the movies and movie firsts. A moderated panel includes actor Elliott Gould.
