Live from Chicago: DMA Inducts Four into Hall of Fame

The Direct Marketing Associated announced four new inductees into its Hall of Fame. Established in 1978, the DMA Hall of Fame recognizes individuals that have made significant contributions to the direct or interactive marketing field.

This year’s inductees include:

Murray Roman, considered to be one of the forefathers of telemarketing. Roman realized the potential for telephone sales in 1962, when he generated a 20 million name lead program to introduce the Ford Mustang.

Dr. Michael Otto, chairman and CEO of Otto Versand, one of the largest mail order businesses in the world. Otto’s family also owned the catalog operations of Spiegel and furnishings retailer Crate & Barrel.

Bill Jayme, the direct mail and marketing copywriter known as much for his doctrine of “the willing suspension of disbelief” as his legendary Psychology outer envelope line, “Do you still close the bathroom door when no one is home?” and

Henry R. “Pete” Hoke Jr., chairman of Direct Marketing Magazine.
