IN THE NEWS

Canada Seeks Contractor to Monitor List Compliance
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has issued a request for bids from contractors to monitor compliance with Canada’s National Do Not Call List when it’s launched.

In December Bell Canada was awarded a contract by the CRTC to gather and maintain a list of phone numbers that telemarketers will be prohibited from calling. The CRTC expects its telemarketing suppression file will be available by Sept. 30.

Canadian consumers can have their telephone numbers added to the National Do Not Call List at no charge. It will be mandatory for telemarketers to pay a subscription fee and use the telemarketing suppression file.

The CRTC will host a bidders’ conference Feb. 28. It will accept bids online until March 25 at merx.com, where additional information is available.

Bids should include a company profile demonstrating relevant knowledge and experience. Bidders should possess a qualified management team and be able to demonstrate an absence of any conflict of interest.

Besides monitoring telemarketing list regulatory compliance and investigating complaints, the contractor will deal with matters involving other Canadian telemarketing rules.
