FTC Receives Proposal for Do-Not-Track List
A Coalition of privacy advocates and consumer groups have submitted a proposal asking the Federal Trade Commission to establish a do-not-track list to opt out from having personal data collected on the Internet.

It recommends that the FTC create a list of data servers which track consumers online, which consumers could download and use security software to block Web sites from tracking their online activities, according to published reports.

The proposal was presented as the FTC is hosting a meeting with privacy and advertising industry representatives concerning online data collection practices, a two-day event that runs through today.
