[Loose Cannon: Taking the “Bill Me” By The Horns, Direct Newsline, Feb. 14, 2005]
Good point about the employee not wanting everyone to know where she shops; that is indeed her own business. However, she has chosen to have packages from that company delivered to her office, which blows her cover in a big way.
Speaking as one who had wedding gifts delivered to the office (long hours, long commute, no doorman, not-so-great neighborhood), I made a choice between essentially advertising my wedding registry (including quantity and source of gifts) to the entire office or making trips to the UPS and FedEx centers on Saturday mornings when I gave the Ship To address, not when I received follow-up catalogs.
Having said all that, I do think discretion is a good idea for consumer cataloguers sending to business addresses.
Thanks for the great columns.
