[Re: Loose Cannon, The Kindness of Strangers, Direct Newsline, Sept. 6, 2005]:
Thanks for your article about New Orleans. I think that your call to action is right on the mark. Another good way to help bring it to top-of-mind as a vacation or event destination would be to shoot on location in New Orleans once that’s appropriate, again reminding the general public that it’s a great spot to visit.
It seems that many of us have a love for that grand old city and it would be great to do what we can to help rebuild the tourism industry once it’s ready.
Thanks again – great article!

New Orleans is more than a place that once hosted the DMA conferences and Sunday football games.
It is more than a news story.
It is more than a political fighting ground.
It is more than a place to take a stand, make a point, or grandstand.
New Orleans, for those who truly love it, is a mindset. A place in your heart that tugs on you when you are not there. It is a state of mind that no hurricane or politician or flood can ever take away.
Watching the telethons the other night it occurred to me that you are not supposed to watch these musicians on TV. Rather, you are supposed to experience them as you stroll by with a Hurricane in your hand, a buzz in your head, and the distant melodic sound of kids dancing with coke bottle caps on the souls of their sneakers transformed into tap shoes.
New Orleans is the place you go when your soul needs healing. It is bigger than just a city and it will undoubtedly rise again.
I cannot bear to think that a place that brings complete joy will never be the same…because sheer will and determination can bring it back. I cannot bear to think that the small perfumery where I buy my one-of-a-kind scents, run by a family of sisters since the 1800s at the same location in Jackson Square will not be there for me to stop into and smile and feel completely welcomed.
Call it Voodoo Magic…but the New Orleans that lives in your heart is never gone…it’s just temporarily sleeping it off until it is time to party once again.
Or, at least we can hang on to the hope.
