Lands’ End Reports 3Q Sales: Warns of 4Q Drop in Sales

Lands’ End Inc., Dodgeville, WI, has reported net sales for the third quarter ended Oct. 29, totaled $326.0 million, up 1% from sales of $322.4 million in the same quarter last year.

Net income for the quarter was $8.8 million, compared with the $0.3 million earned in the same quarter last year

Third quarter sales on the company’s Internet site (http://www.landsend.com) were about two and one-half times those in the same quarter last year. In the most recent fiscal year, Internet sales were $61 million, about 4.5% of total net sales, from $18 million in the prior year.

During the third quarter, there was an increase in catalog productivity, or sales per page, due to the planned 20% reduction in the number of pages circulated.

The company also warned that fiscal fourth-quarter sales are expected to fall as it cuts the number of pages in its catalogs and pushes more sales over the Internet.
