Kmart Contest Searches for Fashion Ambassador

Kmart is rolling out a contest in search of a fashion ambassador to represent the brand.

The contest, which launches March 9, asks people to upload a photo of themselves in a uniquely created ensemble at http://www/kmart.com/style. With each image, entrants must include a statement of 50 words or less explaining the inspiration for their design.

Entries will be judged on four categories: Casual, classic, trendy or sporty by a panel of celebrities and executives.

One grand-prize winner will appear in Kmart’s national advertising campaigns, as well as spend a day working with the brand’s private label designers. The prize package also includes $10,000 in Kmart gift cards and a trip for two to New York City and theater tickets.

Ten first-prize winners will receive a trip to New York City, a $50 Kmart gift card and a Flip Video Ultra Shoot and Share Camcorder. And 75 second-prize winners will receive a camcorder and a $10 Kmart gift card.

“We believe this campaign will not only help cultivate talent, but also enhance our ability to tap into the creativity and design savvy that we know exists in the market,” said Lisa Schultz, executive vice president of apparel design at Sears Holding Corp.

Online marketing and in-store signage will support the contest.

The promotion comes on the heels of Kmart launching three new apparel lines: Piper & Blue in the junior’s category, Limon & Sal, for young men and Wckd, a collection for young men and women.
