Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter has asked a coalition of telemarketing firms to drop its support of a second petition filed with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that would increase telemarketing calls in the state.
Thirty-three groups were listed on the petition asking the FCC to declare that states can only regulate calls that originate in Indiana, said Carter. He noted that such a declaration would allow telemarketers to skirt Indiana’s Do Not Call law merely by calling from outside the state.
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society filed notice with the FCC late last week withdrawing its support of the joint petition challenging the state’s law, said Carter.
Carter is asking the following 32 organizations who remain a part of this petition that would water down Indiana’s law to consider withdrawing their support as well.
