India Tightens Online Data Theft Laws

The Indian government this week approved amendments to its Information Technology Act of 2000 aimed at making life more difficult for online criminals, according to the Asia Times.

These revisions came after a series of embarrassing sting operations exposing data theft in the country’s business process outsourcing (BPO) industry

Under the new law, fines of over $1 million can be imposed on companies and individuals who fail to stop data theft and the leakage of personal information.
