Heinz Lends 200 Million Labels to Trivial Pursuit

Heinz Ketchup is taking diners back to the 80’s with a Trivial Pursuit sweepstakes that starts out in restaurants and ends up online.

H.J. Heinz Co. is putting questions (and answers) from the newest version of Trivial Pursuit the Totally 80s Edition, on 200 million packages of ketchup.

Diners who use the packets are invited to register online at HeinzTrivialPursuit.com to enter the random-draw sweeps. Entrants give their contact information and the name of the restaurant, school cafeteria or sports stadium where they got a game packet. One grand-prize winner gets a $2,500 Visa gift card; 200 first-prize winners each get a Trivial Pursuit Totally 80s Edition board game.

There’s a special incentive for foodservice operators, too. The five establishments with the most consumer entries each win a $500 coupon for Heinz Ketchup.

Heinz’s foodservice division runs the sweeps from Nov. 15 through Jan. 31, 2007, with winners announced in March 2007.

The tie-in gives a holiday push to Trivial Pursuit’s 80s edition, which hit stores in May. Hasbro markets the board game, which is itself a product of the 80’s: Trivial Pursuit debuted in 1982.
