Groupon Issues Refunds for Medical Spa Customers, Waits on $23,000 From Pizza Chain

Posted on

GrouponGroupon is stopping deals offered by a cosmetic surgeon in Rocklin, Calif., after the doctor was found to have injured and deformed patients. The Medical Board of California filed a complaint against the surgeon in September 2011 involving a patient’s breast rejuvenation. Groupon is refunding purchases who bought deals from Advance Medical Spa, due to “unforeseen circumstances.” Meanwhile, in the Boston area, a local pizza chain called Upper Crust Pizzeria is causing a major headache for one of its franchises, which has redeemed $23,000 worth of Groupon vouchers sold by the chain. Now that the chain’s ownership filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy without the franchisee’s knowledge, the franchise is on the hook for the Groupon vouchers sold. It is no longer accepting these vouchers because they never received the $15,000 due to them by corporate. Consumers who want refunds will have to contact Groupon directly.
