Google Still Tops In Search: ComScore

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

There’s a reason why “google” has become the generic term for using a search engine: Among the five major search engines, Google Inc.’s various sites accounted for nearly 62% of online queries made by Americans in July.

The Mountain View, CA-based firm actually gained share of search during the month. In June, it made up 61.5% of al searches. How many searches are we talking about? In July, Americans conducted more than 11.75 billion queries, of which Google sucked up 7.27 billion.

The increase came at the expense of Yahoo and Microsoft search sites. Yahoo saw its share of searches slip from 20.9% to 20.5%, and Microsoft’s portion dropped from 9.2% to 8.9%

The Ask network posted a modest gain, from 4.3% to 4.5%, and AOL’s portion ticked up from 4.1% to 4.2%.
